La vie parisienne".

7:30pm Esplanade Concert Hall

Featuring:
Lim Yau  conductor
Dmitri Makhtin  violin

Repertoire/ Programme:

MASSENET – Le Cid: Ballet Music
SAINT-SAËNS – Violin Concerto No. 3 in B minor, Op. 61
STRAVINSKY – The Firebird: Suite (1919 version)
Synopsis:
Though born into the Romantic era, Saint-Saens remained very much a composer in the classical French tradition, as illustrated by the Violin Concerto No. 3, a work premiered by the great Spanish virtuoso Pablo de Sarasate. It was just the opposite for Satie, who wrote of himself, "I have come into the world very young into an era very old." The 1917 ballet Parade was a joint effort with Cubist painters Jean Cocteau and Pablo Picasso. Another work from the same era, Stravinsky’s music for The Firebird brings a modernist approach to a traditional Russian folktale.
